If you’re subscribed to HBO Max directly and watching all of its content through the HBO Max app, all you’ll ever see in your Fire TV’s “Recent” row is the HBO Max icon. If you’re subscribed through Prime Video Channels and, therefore, have all of HBO’s content accessible through the Fire TV interface, individual movies, episodes, and channels will appear in the Recent row when you access them. This lets you more easily jump back in where you left off. In the screenshot above, I watched an episode of Ballers through HBO, then checked to see what was on the live HBO channel, and then started watching the movie Ford v Ferrari through HBO. All three appear individually on the Recent row so I can quickly jump to the next Ballers episode, back into the movie where I left off, or see what’s playing right now (and its progress) on the live channel, all without needing to load or dig through the HBO Max app. These individual recently accessed videos are also synced across all of your Fire TVs (if you have the setting enabled) and even synced across all of your Prime Video apps on different devices.

The Regions Tradition is a PGA TOUR Champions major, held annually in Birmingham. While the 2020 Tradition was canceled due to COVID-19, the giving continues. This year, a record $1.2 million was raised for charities. Today, we profile one of the nonprofits affected by the record giving.

For a 17-year-old musician in Mobile, the gift is a music shed that provides a private space to hone her talent.

For two boys in Birmingham, it means instead of a trip to Disney World, they get a backyard adaptive playground.

Based in Birmingham, Magic Moments has since 1984 created nonmedical memories for children under 19 with chronic or life-threatening illnesses.

But 2020 has been a year like no other.

“Normally, the majority of our requests are for travel,” said Sandy Naramore, executive director for Magic Moments. “Whether it’s going to Orlando for Disney World, New York for a specific ballet performance or Denver to meet a favorite athlete.

“But what’s been so unique during the pandemic is that we are getting so many unique requests.”

Such as the music shed, or the latest Moment: obedience training for an emotional support dog of a freshman at Jacksonville State University.

Thanks to the Regions Tradition and its charitable Birdies for Charity, the nonprofit will have help fulfilling its mission. While the 2020 major event on the PGA Champions TOUR was canceled due to COVID-19, the Tradition’s giving continues — in record numbers.

That’s important to children and families throughout Alabama.

“Our annual goal is to create 100 moments,” Naramore said. “Some years we’re at 98, while some years it’s 103. But the average cost of a Magic Moment is $5,000, meaning we need to raise half a million dollars a year.”

Since its inception, Magic Moments has created more than 5,000 memories for children in all 67 Alabama counties.

But never has fundraising been affected more than in 2020.

“The pandemic has affected us in several different ways,” Naramore said. “Being a nonprofit, it has impacted fundraising because we’ve had to completely cancel major events — or at least postpone them until 2021. So we’ve taken a big budget hit.”

Applications were down during the first half of the pandemic. But with fewer restrictions, the requests are pouring back in.

Magic Moments doesn’t want to let anyone down.

“Every dollar counts,” Naramore said. “We’ve gotten very creative in coming up with new fundraisers, but that hasn’t made up for the losses. That’s why Birdies for Charity is so tremendous. It will go toward helping create another Magic Moment for a child in Alabama.”

I don’t really think of myself as going above and beyond,” Murphy said. “I just kind of live everyday. I never would have thought of someone to think of me for this.
The family received Airpods, books, pajamas, new shoes, a bathroom caddy, coloring utensils and more.

Murphy was nominated for her volunteering and mission work in Haiti. Her nominators said she is able to find a bright light in every situation.

At two-years-old, Murphy and her siblings were placed into foster care after her mother was injured in a car accident. Murphy eventually aged-out of the system. She is now in the process of earning her bachelor’s degree.

“If kids age out of the foster system, only 50 percent of them will graduate from high school and less than three percent will earn their bachelor’s degree. I think it’s really important not to forget about those kids and just help them out.”

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) — The Christmas time is certainly a special time of year, but this season held even more magic for one little girl in our area.

Friday night, during the annual Bama Lights show in Pinson, 4-year-old Logan got the ultimate surprise when she learned she would be getting a brand new playset courtesy of “Magic Moments”.

Logan has already undergone numerous surgeries in her short little life and is unable to go to regular playgrounds. So her wish was for a playset that allowed her and her friends to play, with no limitations.

“To be able to surprise this beautiful, incredible, energetic little four-year-old girl, that we’re gonna do something special for her, it just brings out the whole meaning of Christmas, it’s the miracle of Christmas and here we are,” said Sandy Naramore Executive Director of Magic Moments

Each year the Bama Lights show asks for donations to “Magic Moments” instead of charging onlookers.

Photographer Veronica Hernandez does not fear sand nor flying bugs when it comes to capturing the perfect angle.

She has crouched and rolled in the beaches at the St. Mark’s Lighthouse for a friend’s engagement photoshoot, and despite leaving itchy and full of bites, found the end result to be completely worth it.

Truthfully, Hernadez is a master of poses no matter the environment. She completed her yoga teacher training last month. She enjoys not only taking photos of her fellow yogis, but also uses her knowledge of the physical, somatic practice to help her clients capture their best selves on film.

“Going through the training has helped me to hone my craft,” says Hernandez. “There are a lot of clients out there who get super nervous, especially at the beginning of a shoot, so I try to incorporate some of my yoga breathing techniques to help them.”

Maradona’s performance against England in the 1986 World Cup has already gone down in history as his most iconic display for his country. Pitted against a nation that was at war with his homeland over custody of the Falkland Islands just four years earlier, passions ran deep when the two nations met in the quarter-finals of the tournament.

For a match befitting the rivalry, the action on the pitch was tense and tetchy, and it needed something out of the ordinary to bring the contest to life. Unsurprisingly, it was Maradona who provided it.

When a loose ball was hacked into the air by a panicking Steve Hodge, Maradona latched onto its flight path long before anyone else, including England goalkeeper Peter Shilton.

With the ball dropping from a great height in the heart of England’s penalty area, Maradona leapt into the air and, just as Shilton appeared in range to punch clear, knocked the ball past the outrushing keeper and into the empty England net.

Hernandez’s photograph, “Golden Vibrations,” is breath personified. The photo is one of three by Hernandez featured as a part of this year’s Photofest 2020. The exhibit is on display at the Artport Gallery and on COCA’s new Online Gallery.

“Golden Vibrations” was taken at Crystal Portal, a shop located in Railroad Square. The unique angle of the digeridoo player is prominent in the image, as are the rays of the sun that are refracted by the camera’s lens.
